IDF Carries Operation from Golan Heights into Southern Lebanon
In a statement, the army said troops from the Alpinist Unit, part of the 810th Brigade, “completed a targeted operation” aimed at preventing what it described as attempts by “terror” groups to establish positions along the Lebanon border. The operation involved navigating complex mountainous terrain, with forces crossing on foot through deep snow from the Syrian Hermon area (Jabal al-Sheikh) in the occupied Golan Heights toward Mount Dov (Shebaa Farms) in southern Lebanon.
The statement indicated that the troops conducted reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, and efforts to locate enemy infrastructure, utilizing the specialized skills of the mountain commando unit. No further information was provided regarding clashes or casualties.
Israel has controlled the Syrian Golan Heights since 1967 and expanded its presence in the buffer zone after the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in 2024. Since a cross-border attack by Hezbollah on March 2, Israel has conducted airstrikes across Lebanon and launched a ground offensive in the south. Lebanese authorities reported 1,142 deaths and 3,315 injuries as a result of the assault.
The escalation occurs amid a broader US-Israeli offensive on Iran that began on February 28, which has killed over 1,340 people. Iran has retaliated with missile
and drone strikes targeting Israel, US military installations, and Gulf countries.
