Syria Accuses Israel of Using Its Territory to Launch Attacks on Lebanon
In his remarks, Syria’s UN ambassador Ibrahim Olabi said Israel is continuing what he described as aggressive policies that threaten regional security and undermine Syria’s recovery process.
He stated that Israel “continues to pursue its aggressive and expansionist policies,” and claimed there are ongoing plans linked to expanding settlement activity in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
Olabi further argued that Israel’s actions are contributing to escalating tensions, pointing to repeated incursions into southern Syria and broader cross-border military activity.
He told the Council that Israel “uses Syrian territory that it has infiltrated as a launching point for military attacks targeting brotherly Lebanon.”
The Syrian envoy also made serious allegations regarding conduct on the ground, including claims of harm to civilians, abductions, and environmental damage, saying these issues have been documented by UN agencies.
Beyond military developments, he warned that Israeli political leadership is also pursuing strategies aimed at reshaping regional alignments in ways that could negatively affect Syria’s future stability.
According to him, “Its leadership continues to promote speculative maps linking Syria to regional axes unrelated to it.”
Olabi added that Israel appears intent on drawing Syria deeper into broader regional escalation, which he said could undermine recent progress in stabilizing the country.
He called on the Security Council to take urgent action to restrain Israeli activities and prevent further deterioration of the situation, emphasizing the need to protect both Syrian and regional stability.
