Three Syrian Soldiers Sustain Injuries in Mine Clearance Explosion
The explosion occurred in Raqqa province, in the village of Al-Hurriya in the Tal Abyad area, according to reports.
The soldiers, who were members of the Military Engineering Administration, were carrying out mine-clearing work when the device exploded, leaving all three injured “to varying degrees.”
Authorities did not disclose further information about the soldiers’ conditions or provide details about where the mine came from.
Although Syria’s 14-year civil war has ended, unexploded ordnance and abandoned munitions continue to create risks for communities across the country.
Latest figures from the Landmine Monitor indicate that at least 13,953 people were killed or injured by mines and explosive remnants of war in Syria between 1999 and 2024. The monitor noted that the actual number could be higher because documenting incidents remains difficult.
